Everyone is lost
Everyone feels
hurt
and lonely
and lost.
You’re not the only one.
I’d rather be rich
I’m poor but
I’d rather be rich.
I want people to write books about me.
I want photographers to swarm
when I leave restaurants.
I want to be so rich
one of my chauffeurs
has a 20-carat diamond ring
she never wears anymore
because she’s tired of it.
An elephant never forgets
I’d never be lonely
if an elephant was my friend.
I’d give him pieces of sugar cane
because they’re his favourite treat.
I’d take him to the waterfalls
every morning for a good scrub.
If somebody bothered us,
he could just shoot water at them
out through his trunk.
And best of all,
if an elephant was my friend,
it wouldn’t be like a person being my friend,
because an elephant would never forget about me.
So lonely on a Sunday
You can get so lonely on a Sunday
that it leaves a scar on your soul.
And the next day,
surrounded by people,
you are not the same
as you were
before that Sunday.
